Dear Prime Minister,

Re: Call for release of democracy activist Nguyen Quoc Quan

The detention of Nguyen Quoc Quan on April 17 is the latest case of “rule by law” in which the Vietnamese government is using vague national security provisions as the pretext to arrest and detain individuals who peacefully advocate for religious and politicial freedom.

His arrest has been condemned by organisations and individuals worldwide and his arbitrary detention as a citizen of the United States is unacceptable.

His peaceful activism and support of democracy is well known and the Vietnamese governments’s accusation of ‘terrorism’ against Quan is “completely fabricated and has no basis”.

I support his immediate release so he can be reunited with his wife and two sons.

Yours sincerely,

Luke A Donnellan MP
