Dear Mr President,

Alerted by Viet Tan, the Vietnam Reform Party, we are writing this letter to express our deepest concern regarding the situation of democracy activists in Vietnam.

We have learned that many bloggers have recently been arrested by the Vietnamese police simply for publishing articles condemning the worrying expansion of China in the South Asia Sea.

In addition, we would like to show our indignation at the way that the prisoners of conscience, such as Reverend Nguyen Van Ly, lawyer Le Thi Cong Nhan, who have not been receiving the medical attention that they desperately need despite their degrading health.

We have also been informed that on 24th September 2009, 6 democracy activists will be trialled in Hai Phong, they are Nguyen Xuan Nghia(1), Ngo Quynh(2), Nguyen Manh Son(3), Nguyen Van Tinh(4), Nguyen Van Tuc(5) and Nguyen Kim Nhan(6). A further two will be trialled in Ha Noi, they are: Pham Van Troi(7) and Vu Hung(8).

All of them have been accused of propaganda against the government even though they were simply expressing their opinions in favour of political and civil rights in Vietnam.

As you are aware, Vietnam have signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Thus we are asking you to intervene in order to make the civil and political rights respected in Vietnam, and also people like Reverend Nguyen Van Ly and lawyer Le Thi Cong Nhan have access to medical care as justified by their poor health.

Yours sincerely,

    Mr. François Longchamp, Minister, State of Geneva
    Mr. Frédéric Hohl, Deputy, State of Geneva ;
    Chief of radical group of Grand Council, State of Geneva
