During the days of Tet in the Year of Tiger, 2010, and on the occasion of the first days of the one-thousandth anniversary of Thang Long/Hanoi, the For Democracy Action Coordinating Committee has launched a leaflet campaign throughout the country calling for democracy and the defense of the Fatherland, specifically in such cities and provinces as Hanoi, Haiphong, Vinh Phu, Hue, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Saigon, Can Tho, etc. The leaflets, entitled “Appeal On The One Thousand Year Anniversary of Thang-Long” have been spread in crowded locations such as bus terminals, Tet fairs, entertainment spots, Spring festivals and Spring flower markets.
This is a coordinated action by a number of political organizations meant to express the aspirations of the entire nation in response to their demands for democracy while at the same time upholding the banner of national self-determination in opposition to the expansionist schemes of Beijing, schemes that can only be carried out with the CPV leadership’s collusion and concession of land and territorial waters to China. This successful operation also shows that the leadership in Hanoi can never extinguish the movement for democracy and territorial protection of the Fatherland even with their increased repression, arrests and trials of patriotic democracy activists as has happened in recent days.
The Hanoi authorities are going against the aspirations of the Vietnamese masses, and also counter to the social development trends of the time. One-party rule and monopolistic power-grabbing do not bring political stability and sustainable economic development; on the contrary, they are the very roots of corruption, injustice and social instability. To put an end to this tragic path, the entire Vietnamese nation is determined to fight for its freedom to choose and dismiss the leaders of the nation.
This coordinated campaign of leaflet distribution throughout the land at the very beginning of the “one-thousandth anniversary year of Thang Long/Hanoi” is also meant to express the aspirations of the entire nation and the hope of democracy activists to awaken our proud national spirit so as to open up a path to develop a new Thang Long, a new Vietnam in the third millennium. Thang Long, the Imperial City, has revealed itself right in the middle of Hanoi like a reminder to us, the offspring of our Dai Viet ancestors of 1000 years ago, of our shameful present of impotence and incompetence. Those fighting for the future of the Fatherland pledge to the sacred anima of our ancestors that we will continue our coordinated actions so that Vietnam could soon have freedom and democracy, and so that Vietnam can begin a renaissance period in a globalized world.

Appeal On The One Thousand Year Anniversary of Thang-Long Dear Compatriots,
This year, in 2010, our entire nation commemorates one thousand years of Thang Long/Hanoi at a time of great, lurking danger facing our Fatherland. Many border localities near China, the Paracel Archipelago and several islands in the Spratly have fallen into the hands of expansionist China. Tens of thousands of Chinese laborers are present right now at strategic spots in the Central Highlands, exploiting in unconscionable fashion our national resources and flouting all concerns for damage to people and the environment. Besides the danger of forfeiting our land, the quality of life of our people has also gravely deteriorated. Our young ones are sold in marriage to foreigners or exported as laborers in a new kind of modern-day slavery. The environment is seriously polluted, our rivers and streams are dying, and the soil is poisoned. Social morality has declined and our educational system is debased. Our workers are exploited. Our farmers have their lands and homes robbed from them. The government seeks to eliminate religion, and to oppress the common people, especially those who struggle to demand justice, democracy and territorial integrity. Dictatorial rule, corruption, power abuse, violence, and rule by a police state are the substance of Vietnam’s regime at the present time; a regime traitorous to the interests of the nation.
Now is the time our people must reclaim self-determination and the right to dismiss self-appointed, unqualified leaders. In commemoration of the one-thousandth anniversary of Thang Long/Hanoi, we hereby appeal:
Long live Viet Nam. Long live the Vietnamese People.
