Volunteers distribute masks to those who live in rural regions and ethnic communities.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 7, 2020

To help cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, Viet Tan has donated and distributed more than 120,000 masks to various communities throughout Vietnam. According to health officials, masks have been effective in reducing the spread of the disease.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented challenge in the world today, including in Vietnam. Overcoming this pandemic not only requires governments to adopt prudent health policies and economic measures, but also requires people to be aware of their responsibility in keeping the community safe. More than ever, civil society plays an important role in supporting and protecting the Vietnamese people.

In the last two months, Viet Tan has distributed masks and provided preventative information to communities in twenty provinces across the country, focusing on helping poor, socially disadvantaged individuals from rural regions and ethnic communities.

Viet Tan sincerely acknowledges the support and assistance from the mask suppliers, sponsors, and volunteers, who have helped with distributing the masks. This is only a small effort, and more programs are needed to help people overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

In light of the nationwide stay-at-home policy, Viet Tan members will organize other programs to assist the people during these challenging times. This pandemic is spreading rapidly throughout Southeast Asia and around the world. It is important for each of us to show social responsibility and care for one another. With the prospect that the healthcare system may be overwhelmed and many families may face financial hardship, this is a time for Vietnamese both in the country and abroad to lend a helping hand.

We thank the many organizations and individuals who have assisted in the fight against the pandemic. We wish you and your family good health and look forward to working with you on future projects.

In that spirit, we hope to heed the social call: “If you are struggling, take what you need. If you are comfortable, save it for others.”
