Press Conference of Professor Nguyen Chinh Ket

Professor Nguyen Chinh Ket has met the overseas Vietnamese community in a press conference hosted by the Vietnam Human Rights Network on December 24, 2006 in Southern California.

The press conference had gathered local media and was attended by representatives of various Vietnamese community councils, community organizations, as well as dignitaries and members of the community. Under an intimate and open atmosphere, Mr. Le Minh Nguyen, Chair of the Coordinating Committee of Vietnam Human Rights Network, read the opening statement to welcome the audiences and introduced Professor Nguyen Chinh Ket along with other panelists. Furthermore, the organizing committee gave a brief biography of Professor Ngyen Chinh Ket, as well as his involvements in the struggle for democratic reforms in Viet-Nam.

During the press conference, Professor Nguyen Chinh Ket confirmed that he will return to Viet-Nam to continue the struggle for freedom and democracy in the country, and if the Communist government of Viet-Nam hinders his return, he hopes that every Vietnamese person overseas will join him in the fight so he can return to the country. Regarding his U.S. trip, in addition to receiving the 2006 Viet-Nam Human Rights Award from the Viet-Nam Human Rights Network, Professor Ket also want to use the opportunity to build a bridge of understanding between the democracy activists inside Viet-Nam and the Vietnamese community overseas.

During the Q & A session of the conference, Professor Nguyen Chinh Ket answered questions raised by the media and press, accompanied by numerous loud applauses echoed throughout the conference room.

At the end of the conference, members of the community, representatives of various organizations, and especially the Vietnamese youth attended the conference expressed their admiration, respect, and love for Professor Ket.
