Rights Groups Launch Website on Vietnamese Political Prisoners

Viet Tan

Viet Tan, Lawyers Rights Watch Canada, Reporters Without Borders have launched an interactive, online database of Vietnamese political prisoners.

Stopthecrackdown.com provides biographical data of detained activists and maps the known locations of many of these political prisoners. The website is part of Stop the Crackdown in Vietnam, a sustained campaign to advocate for the release of detained Vietnamese bloggers and human rights defenders.

Since 2017, more than 30 peaceful activists have been arrested and/or sentenced to lengthy prison sentences.

Stopthecrackdown.com provides a snapshot of the unprecedented crackdown against peaceful expression in Vietnam. The database is a work in progress as the number of actual political prisoners in Vietnam is certainly more than what has been documented on this website.
