Urge Secretary Kerry to call for the release of Vietnamese Prisoners of Conscience

On the eve of VCP General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to the U.S., please urge Secretary of State John Kerry to call for the release of all Vietnamese prisoners of conscience including Ho Duc Hoa, Dang Xuan Dieu and Nguyen Dang Minh Man. It’s vital that the U.S. sends a clear message to the Vietnamese communist authorities that human rights must be respected.

Dear Secretary Kerry,

I respectfully urge you to raise the cases of Vietnamese political prisoners in your upcoming meeting with Vietnamese Communist Party boss Nguyen Phu Trong.

As Secretary of State, you’ve demonstrated a strong determination to promote political freedom around the world. As the US deepens its relationship with Vietnam, I urge you to emphasize the importance of human rights for Vietnam to realize its potential as a economic and security partner of the US.

Specifically, I ask that you raise the cases of Vietnamese citizen journalists Ho Duc Hoa, Dang Xuan Dieu, and Nguyen Dang Minh Man. These three brave activists have been arbitrarily sentenced to harsh prison terms as a result of their peaceful advocacy.

I hope you will call on Mr. Trong to immediately release Hoa, Dieu, Minh Man and all other Vietnamese political prisoners.

Thank you,
