Hoang Phong is a community organizer and member of the John Paul II Group for Pro-Life. He is active in mobilizing against local authorities’ harassment of students of faith and most recently organized candle vigils at the Vinh Diocese. Phong was also arrested in August 2011 but released after three days. His detention is part of a larger crackdown currently totaling 17 human rights defenders (mostly from Vinh Province).
