The family of Vietnamese voice of conscience Dang Xuan Dieu gathered together to send a letter to U.S Secretary of State John Kerry urging him to raise the case of Vietnamese political prisoners on the eve of VCP Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to the United States.

To U.S Secretary of State John Kerry,

My name is Dang Xuan Ha and I am the older brother of prisoner of conscience Dang Xuan Dieu. I respectfully urge you to raise the cases of Vietnam’s political prisoners in your meetings with Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

As the United States strengthens its relations with Vietnam, I hope you emphasise the need to respect basic human rights when also discussing economic and security co-operations.

I hope you raise the cases of prisoners of conscience including Ho Duc Hoa, Dang Xuan Dieu, Nguyen Dang Minh Man and many others as these brave activists have been sentenced by the Hanoi authorities to lengthy prison terms.
