Ho Van Oanh is a member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and was previously detained in April 2011 while trying to attend the trial of legal scholar Cu Huy Ha Vu. Hoa was most recently detained while visiting a friend in Saigon. His arrest is part of a larger crackdown currently totaling 17 human rights defenders (mostly from Vinh Province).
