A member of Bloc 8406 and the Vietnam Progression Party, Nguyen Binh Thanh was tried together with Father Nguyen Van Ly, Nguyen Phong, Le Thi Le Hang and Hoang Thi Anh Dao on March 30, 2007 for their peaceful political activities. For assisting with the production of the unsanctioned newspaper Tu Do Ngon Luan (Freedom of Speech), Nguyen Binh Thanh was charged with disseminating “propaganda against the state.”
