Viet Tan today released a report detailing illegal computer attacks sponsored by the Hanoi government.
The findings include:
• Hackers from Vietnam crashed websites based in the US and Europe and used malware to spy on political opponents.
• Unprecedented cyberattacks occurred as the Hanoi government persecuted bloggers and democracy activists.
• Urgent action is needed to ensure internet freedom for Vietnamese citizens and everyone interested in visiting Vietnamese-language websites.
The hacker attacks originated from Vietnam based on Internet Protocol (IP) addresses obtained by Viet Tan and other organizations that were victimized.
Separate investigations by Google and computer security company McAfee further confirm that entities inside Vietnam orchestrated the recent wave of cyber attacks.
