A member of the Vietnam Populist Party, Truong Minh Duc was arrested for helping farmers file complaints against local authorities’ seizure of their properties. A dedicated anti-corruption activist, he has authored many articles about abuses of power and civil rights violations, many of which were sent to overseas websites. He was reportedly denied medical treatment for a broken arm sustained while in prison.
